Hello listeners,
Sad news from Trekabout–the podcast is ending.
Today’s episode is the last regular podcast.
In the coming weeks we will be releasing two additional episodes–one on Voyager’s series finale and one on Star Trek: Nemesis. We want to provide some sort of goodbye, and figured wrapping up 24th Century Trek was a decent way to do it.
This was a difficult decision, but we’ve been doing this for over six years and 300 episodes, and that’s a good run.
Thank you all so very much, whether you’ve been listening since episode 1 or last week.
Live long and prosper, everyone.

-This is just very sad news.
Thanks for all the amazing podcasts over the years, you are both great and will be missed tremendously.
Eric Murphy
-Thank you.
Jess
-I’m so sorry to hear this! I hope everything is otherwise okay and I wish you luck on whatever you decide to do in the future
Eric Murphy
-Thanks Jess!
Melissa Avery-Weir
-Oh, wow, This is a bummer. Y’all have done amazing work here, though. I never even knew the animated series existed, and rewatching TOS and then watching TAS “with” you was such a great experience. 😀 You’ll be missed.
Eric Murphy
-Thank you, Melissa. 🙂

This is my sad face: 🙁
While I’m sad to see Trekabout end, I can’t thank you both enough for the joy you’ve brought to my experience of Star Trek. Trek is my favorite franchise by a wide margin, and having you guys as companions through a re-watch has been absolutely lovely. You guys have made me laugh, yell, and cry (yeah, seriously); I’ve disagreed with you about your take on specific episodes, but often you’ve offered some perspective that I had never considered, and I’ve always appreciated your discussions, agree or disagree.
Gentlemen, seriously, thank you so much for Trekabout, it will remain part of my Star Trek collection as a valuable addition to the shows, and I am very grateful that you were able to get as far as you did.
Peace and long life.

Eric Murphy
-Thank you so much Penny.

-This is definitely sad news. I don’t really know how to put into words how much this podcast has meant to me. I discovered this podcast while going through a bad bout of depression and this podcast helped me get through a tough, tough winter. I will always be grateful to the two of you for how you helped me. Thank you.
I’m feeling a bit guilty for not supporting on Patreon but I was never in a financial position to do so. I wish I could have.
I’m glad you are making the best decision for yourselves and as you say, 6 years is a long time. I will miss by far the best Star Trek podcast on the internet.

-Thank you. And don’t feel guilty! We appreciate all our patrons but we never expected it.

-Sad news indeed – I always have a little smile on a Tuesday morning when I remember there’ll be a new episode of Trekabout up later.
It was through listening to the two of you that I started a rewatch of DS9, which I hadn’t seen all the way through since it first aired, and it was great to listen to your insightful and witty takes on the episodes after I watched them. And the only reason I rewatched Voyager at all was because you were going to be covering it, and whilst it has flaws (oh so many flaws) and seasons 3, 5 and 6 were sometimes a slog, by and large I enjoyed it (season 7 has some of my favourite episodes – alas, ‘Endgame’ isn’t one of them!).
I was looking forward to you covering Enterprise too, which I actually like a lot more than Voyager (the last stretch of season 3 is almost as good as DS9).
But, 6 years IS a long time to devote to anything and you have to make the right decision for you. So I’ll wish you all the best for the future and say a huge thank-you for providing me with hours and hours of entertainment and for rekindling my love of Trek. You’ll be sorely missed.
Eric Murphy
-Thank you David. That means a lot!
Cliffy
-Oh, this is too bad. I’ve been listening since the first episode, and I was always happy to see it pop up into my feed. I was really looking forward to getting your reactions to Enterprise, too, as opinions on that show are so strong and diverse. (Even my own.) Well, I wish you fellows happy trails and, if by any chance you revisit this decision someday, I’ll be here. Thanks for six years!
Eric Murphy
-Thank you!

-Platonic philosophy states that any work of art, or otherwise, never completely resembles its heavenly counterpart. The act of leaving a work unfinished is sometimes an homage to this.
Eric Murphy
-Wow. This meant a lot to me, sincerely. Thank you.
SPurz
-I recently finished the TOS movies, watched everything until then with you guys as companions.
This is super sad for me. I hope everything is okay with you.
Will the published episodes stay online, or should I download them all before you take them down?
Eric Murphy
-The episodes and website will remain up for the foreseeable future.
stfan
-dang. had really hoped you’d suffer through “the void”
Eric Murphy
-This is why we’re stopping, actually. (not really) 🙂
Rory
-I appreciate all your years of podcasting and have thoroughly enjoyed every episode. Thank you!
Eric Murphy
-Thank you Rory!
Tim Carden
-I was looking forward to hearing your opinions of Enterprise. I won’t hold it against you though. The show was great, you had a good run. Thank you for going on this journey and allowing me to tag along
Eric Murphy
-Thank you!
David
-Sorry to see you go, but I appreciate the years of entertainment and thoughtful discussion from you guys on this show and Tuning In. I also appreciate how interactive you were in the comments, and wish you both the best going forward. Hope Nemesis doesn’t turn Richard off the franchise forever!
Eric Murphy
-Thank you–and, we’ll find out in 2 weeks!
Fanny, your Finnish fan
-So sad to hear you’re ending the podcast, I was looking forward to finally catching up and listening to episodes as they’re released. But if it felt like the time to stop, then I’m happy you made the hard decision instead of carrying on without really wanting to. I’m super thankful for the journey! It’s been a good one, thanks for sharing it with us.
At the time I found Trekabout, I was halfway through rewatching childhood favourite TOS and fully committed to finding out what the rest of Trek had to offer.
Having you as traveling companions while (re)discovering my love for Star Trek made me love the franchise even more.
Laughing, crying, stopping to think, disagreeing with you, feeling all happy and hopeful inside, somehow doing all of this at once: all part of my Trekabout experience.
Trekabout is hands down the finest Trek podcast there is, and I’ll keep it in my heart forever, right next to salted caramel ice cream and Star Trek itself.
Live long and prosper!
Eric Murphy
-Thank you Fanny! We really appreciate it. Sorry to take so long to respond to your comment but I was sick with a stomach virus when I approved this comment and in my addled state I guess I forgot to respond!

-Was devastated to hear that the podcast is ending, but I totally understand and respect your decision and am happy you’ll be free of some of the most tedious episodes of the latest shows you’ve done.
I’ve been listening to both Trekabout: Voyager and Tuning In: X Files for about two years now, and your voices have been wonderful accompaniment for my life during this time. I’ve personally gone through a lot over these past two years, but unfailingly, every time a new episode starts and I hear a “So Richard, this episode…” I felt like I was home with friends.
I found Trekabout on Twitter after searching for anyone talking about a weird Neelix bit I saw on rerun Voyager one day, and was excited to see someone was out there talking about it. I’ve watched Trek on and off, as a casual fan of mostly Voyager and some TOS. Until I heard your voices I was always wary of the Trek fan community, maybe unfairly assuming stereotypes and tropes about Trekkies or ST fans generally.
I was even more excited to see you had begun discussing one of my favorite shows, The X Files, on Tuning In and have loved reliving and rewatching that show with new eyes and ears.
Eric and Richard, it feels like your voices are so helpful to the community of Trek, X Files, and beyond. Anyone can recap episodes, and critical/fan analysis of episodes is plentiful, but your personal perspectives made listening both fun and fulfilling. For TV fan communities defined by white hetero male viewers like me it is so important to hear other voices. And bringing these shows into 2016-2018 was such a powerful frame for discussion. The federation would probably be well received at a DSA convention, though they’d probably bring some valid critiques of today’s SocDems. Mulder would be way too online, posting conspiracy memes on Twitter and absentmindedly faving tweets like he was Ted Cruz. And the problematic aspects of all of these shows really should be recognized and talked about today, even if some consideration for the contemporary culture is allowed.
Thank you so much for all of the episodes you’ve given us. Enjoy your time out of the TV box, and know that so many of us have appreciated your banter, analysis and rants.
Eric Murphy
-Wow…thank you SO MUCH Erich. This means a lot. We always hoped that we would have an audience of people that really got what we were trying to do, and we totally got that, so it was definitely all worthwhile.
Jerry Smith
-Damn, I’m late to this party! I’m currently enjoying this show & wish it was on going. Great job guys!
